Chiara is the first female winemaker in Langhe and also the only female member of a small group known as the “Barolo Boys.”

Chiara studied business and economics while her brothers focused on running the Borgogno family winery, considering it was very uncommon for daughters to partake in winemaking at the time. She recalls secretly going out into her vineyards in summer nights with friends in order to do the green harvest without her traditionalist neighbors and father finding out. After a friend of her parents died leaving an estate available, Chiara convinced her family to help her purchase it and formed Azienda Agricola. She worked several years for an international consulting firm to make money and by the mid-1980's she worked full time at the winery.
